As used in this subarticle, unless otherwise specified: (a) "OMR" means optical mark reading. (b) "Optical mark reading equipment (OMR)" means any apparatus necessary to automatically examine and count votes as designated on paper ballots. (c) "Counting center" means one or more locations used for the automatic counting of ballots. (d) "Electronic voting systems" means a system in which votes are recorded on a paper ballot by means of marking, and such votes are subsequently counted and tabulated by optical mark reading equipment at one or more counting centers. (e) "Marking device" means a pen or pencil which the voters use to record their votes by marking a paper ballot. (f) "Ballot" means a paper ballot on which votes are recorded by means of marking the ballot with a marking device.
